The Urgency of Salvation: Now is the Time
Salvation is the most important decision a person can make in life. It determines not just our relationship with God but also our eternal destiny. Many people put off making this decision, assuming they have plenty of time. However, the Bible warns us about the uncertainty of life and the urgency of accepting Christ. As 2 Corinthians 6:2 says, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”
1. The Reality of Sin and Its Consequences
Before understanding the need for salvation, we must recognize the reality of sin. The Bible states in Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” This means that every human being, regardless of how good they appear, has sinned against God. Sin separates us from God, and its consequences are severe. Romans 6:23 warns, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This death is not just physical but also spiritual—eternal separation from God in hell.
Many people think that being good, moral, or religious is enough. But the Bible makes it clear that no one can be saved by their works. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Only faith in Jesus Christ can bring salvation.
2. The Gift of Salvation Through Christ
The good news is that God, in His love and mercy, provided a way to escape from sin and its consequences. John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to earth, lived a sinless life, and willingly died on the cross to pay the price for our sins. His resurrection from the dead proves His victory over sin and death.
Salvation is a free gift. It is not something we can earn or buy; we simply receive it by believing in Jesus Christ. Acts 4:12 declares, “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Jesus is the only way to the Father.
3. The Urgency of Salvation
Many people delay accepting Christ, thinking they have time to make that decision later. However, the Bible warns that life is unpredictable. James 4:14 says, “Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”
Each day, countless people die unexpectedly due to accidents, illnesses, or other unforeseen events. Death does not wait for anyone to be ready. The rich man in Luke 12:16-21 planned for a long future but died suddenly. Jesus called him a fool because he was not prepared spiritually.
Moreover, delaying salvation hardens the heart. Hebrews 3:15 warns, “Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” Every time a person rejects God’s call, their heart becomes less sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s prompting, making it harder to respond later.
4. How to Be Saved
The Bible gives a clear path to salvation:
● Acknowledge that you are a sinner (Romans 3:23).
● Repent of your sins (Acts 3:19). Repentance means turning away from sin and turning to God.
● Believe in Jesus Christ (Romans 10:9). Accept that He died for your sins and rose again.
● Confess Jesus as Lord (Romans 10:10). This is a public declaration of your faith.
Salvation is not complicated. It is a personal decision to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
5. The Reward of Salvation
When a person accepts Christ, they receive the gift of eternal life (John 10:28). They become a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17) and are assured of heaven. There is also the joy of a personal relationship with God, the peace that surpasses understanding, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Delaying salvation is dangerous. No one is promised tomorrow, and rejecting Christ today may mean losing the opportunity forever. 2 Corinthians 6:2 reminds us, “Now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” If you have not yet accepted Jesus, do not wait. Open your heart to Him today and receive the greatest gift—eternal life.
