Throughout the Bible, we see how altars played a powerful role in both righteous worship and demonic activity. Many believers are unaware that evil family altars—spiritual platforms where ungodly covenants were made—can continue to influence lives generations later. These altars often speak through patterns of stagnation, delay, sickness, and repetitive failure. But praise be to God—every evil altar can be broken by the power of Jesus Christ!
This teaching will explain what family altars are, how they affect us, and how to tear them down through targeted scripture-based prayer.
What Are Family Altars?
A family altar is a spiritual structure or covenant raised within a family line, often through sacrifices, vows, or acts of worship—either to the living God or to demonic entities.
In biblical times, both Abraham and Gideon dealt with altars:
● Abraham built altars to the Lord (Genesis 12:7-8).
● Gideon was commanded to destroy his father's altar to Baal (Judges 6:25-26).
When families engage in idolatry, witchcraft, or occultism—knowingly or unknowingly—they raise demonic altars. These altars remain active, enforcing curses until they are destroyed by the power of God.
Signs of an Active Evil Family Altar
1. Recurring generational problems (e.g., barrenness, early death, addiction).
2. Unexplainable delays in marriage, career, or finances.
3. Chronic sickness or mental affliction with no medical explanation.
4. Dreams involving ancestral idols, serpents, or being taken back to your childhood home.
5. Visible family shrines, strange sacrifices, or rituals.
These signs point to spiritual transactions from the past still speaking into the present. But we have hope and power through Jesus Christ to break every altar!
Scriptural Foundation for Breaking Evil Altars
1. Judges 6:25–26 (KJV)
"Take thy father’s young bullock... and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it."
God commanded Gideon to destroy his father’s altar before he could be used by Him. This is symbolic—no man can fulfill divine destiny while tied to demonic foundations.
2. Galatians 3:13
"Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us."
Jesus took every curse upon Himself. But for many, legal grounds (altars) need to be revoked through prayer.
3. Colossians 2:14
"Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us..."
Jesus canceled demonic records—but prayer is required to enforce that victory.
How to Break Evil Family Altars
1. Repentance and Renunciation
Begin by repenting for your sins and those of your ancestors (Daniel 9:4–5). Renounce all involvement—whether direct or inherited.
2. Reject Evil Covenants
Verbally renounce and break every covenant made on your behalf.
3. Invoke the Blood of Jesus
The blood of Jesus is the most powerful weapon against any spiritual altar.
4. Raise a New Altar to God
Commit your life and family to the altar of righteousness (Romans 12:1).
Powerful Prayer Points to Break Family Altars
Note: Pray these fervently with faith, and ideally during a dedicated time of fasting and worship.
1. Thanksgiving and Preparation
“Father, I thank You for the blood of Jesus that speaks better things than any evil altar in my family line.” (Hebrews 12:24)
2. Repentance and Renunciation
“Lord, I repent on behalf of myself and my ancestors for any idolatry, witchcraft, or ungodly covenants in my bloodline.”
“I renounce every evil covenant and transaction made on any altar on my behalf, knowingly or unknowingly.”
3. Breaking Altars
“I break and destroy every evil family altar speaking against my destiny, in the name of Jesus.” (Jeremiah 1:10)
“Let the fire of God consume every altar of poverty, delay, and failure in my lineage.” (1 Kings 18:38)
4. Disengaging from Evil Patterns
“Every demonic pattern established through family altars—be broken now!”
“I disconnect my life from every bloodline altar of limitation and frustration.”
5. Deliverance from Idolatry
“Every family idol receiving sacrifices from relatives that affect my life—be destroyed by fire in Jesus’ name.”
“I command every evil priest ministering at family altars to be silenced permanently.” (1 Kings 18:40)
6. Covering and Dedication
“I dedicate my life, children, and family line to the altar of God’s righteousness.” (Romans 12:1)
“Let the blood of Jesus speak over every negative voice and accusation from ancestral altars.”
Prophetic Declarations Over Your Family
Declare boldly and repeatedly:
“I am redeemed from the curse of the law. No family altar shall hold me captive.” (Galatians 3:13)
“I am a new creation; old things have passed away. I belong to the family of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
“Every handwriting of evil against me is erased by the blood of Jesus.” (Colossians 2:14)
“My children will not serve the altars my ancestors served. We will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)
Raise a New Altar of Worship
After breaking evil altars, raise a godly altar through:
● Daily prayer and devotion
● Giving sacrificially to God’s work
● Dedicating your home to the Lord
● Teaching your family the Word of God
Just as Abraham built altars to the Lord, you too must establish a continuous connection to God in your home.
Real-Life Example: Breaking the Altar of Stagnation
Sarah grew up in a family where no woman married before 40. When she turned 38, a deliverance session revealed an altar of delay tied to an ancestral shrine. After prayer, fasting, and renouncing the covenant, she began seeing breakthroughs. She married within the year and now ministers to others with similar battles.
Final Prayer of Freedom
“Heavenly Father, I thank You for deliverance from every evil family altar. I break all generational curses and patterns by the blood of Jesus. Let Your fire consume every altar speaking against me. I raise a new altar of righteousness and victory in my life. From this day, I walk in freedom, blessings, and divine purpose. In Jesus' name, Amen!”
Family altars—whether godly or evil—shape destinies. But through Jesus Christ, no evil altar has the power to dominate your life anymore. The name of Jesus, the Word of God, and the blood of the Lamb are mighty weapons of deliverance.
Today, rise up like Gideon. Tear down the altars of Baal and raise one to the Lord your God. As you do, generational freedom will begin to flow through your bloodline.
