How to unlock the favour of God

Unlocking the favor of God according to the Bible involves walking in alignment with His will, cultivating intimacy with Him, and obeying His principles. God’s favor is His divine approval, support, or advantage that He bestows on His children for His purposes.

Here’s a biblical guide to unlocking God’s favor:

1. Walk in Obedience to God’s Word

“If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.” – Isaiah 1:19 (NKJV)

Obedience brings alignment with God’s will, which invites His favor. Disobedience, on the other hand, repels it (see Deuteronomy 28:1-14 for blessings tied to obedience).

2. Seek God’s Presence Continually

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” – Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV)

God’s favor is upon those who desire His presence more than anything else. Like Moses, who said, “If your presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here” (Exodus 33:15), those who pursue God's presence experience His favor.

3. Walk Righteously and with Integrity

“For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield.” – Psalm 5:12 (NKJV)

Righteous living and integrity are key to accessing divine favor. God favors those who honor Him with pure hearts and honest actions.

4. Find Humility Before God

“He mocks proud mockers but shows favor to the humble and oppressed.” – Proverbs 3:34 (NIV)

Humility attracts the favor of God. The proud rely on their strength, while the humble acknowledge their dependence on God.

5. Live a Life of Faith

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him…” – Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV)

Faith pleases God and moves Him to act. Those who trust Him even in uncertainty position themselves to receive His favor.

6. Be Diligent and Committed

“Do you see a man diligent in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before unknown men.” – Proverbs 22:29 (NKJV)

Hard work and faithfulness attract God’s favor and open doors of promotion, just as in the case of Joseph (Genesis 39:21).

7. Be Generous and Kind

“Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice.” – Psalm 112:5 (NIV)

Helping the poor and being kind to others pleases God and draws His favor. Cornelius in Acts 10 received a divine visitation because of his generosity and prayers.

8. Pray for God’s Favour

“Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands…” – Psalm 90:17 (ESV)

It’s biblical to ask God for His favor. Prayer opens the door for divine help and supernatural advantage.

9. Wait Patiently on God’s Timing

“For the vision is yet for an appointed time… though it tarries, wait for it…” – Habakkuk 2:3 (NKJV)

Sometimes, favor is delayed, not denied. Trusting in God’s timing shows maturity and keeps you in a position to receive His best.

10. Fear the Lord and Delight in His Commands

“Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in His commandments.” – Psalm 112:1 (ESV)

The fear of the Lord (deep reverence for God) is the beginning of wisdom and invites His ongoing favor.

Prayer Points to Attract God’s Favour:

1. “Lord, teach me to walk in obedience to Your Word, so I may enjoy Your favor.

2. “Father, clothe me with righteousness and integrity that attracts Your blessings.

3. “I humble myself before You today—let Your favor surround me like a shield.”

4. “God, show me mercy and remember me for good like You did Nehemiah.

5. “Holy Spirit, help me to delight in God’s commands and seek His presence daily.”

God’s favor is not a mystery—it’s available to all who walk closely with Him. As you apply these biblical principles, you will begin to see divine shifts in your life. Whether it’s in your family, finances, ministry, or career, the favor of God can take you further than human effort ever could.

Don’t just seek God’s hand—seek His face. And as you walk in obedience, righteousness, and humility, His favor will follow you like a shadow.
