Principles that attract divine favour

Divine favor is the supernatural kindness and approval of God in a person's life. When God’s favor is upon someone, impossible doors open, battles are won with ease, and divine connections are made. While God’s favor is unearned and rooted in grace, the Bible outlines certain principles and attitudes that attract it. Below are key biblical principles that draw the favor of God.

1. Righteousness and Holiness

Living a life that aligns with God’s standards is foundational to experiencing divine favor. God delights in those who walk uprightly and pursue purity. Psalm 5:12 (NIV) says, “Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.

Righteousness involves integrity, moral discipline, and submission to God's Word. Noah is a perfect example. The Bible says in Genesis 6:8-9, “But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord… Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God.” Despite a corrupt world, Noah’s character stood out.

2. Humility

Humility is a heart posture that acknowledges God’s sovereignty and submits to His will. God resists the proud but responds to the humble with favor. James 4:6 affirms, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Also, Proverbs 3:34 “He mocks proud mockers but shows favor to the humble and oppressed.

Esther demonstrated humility in her preparation and submission during her time in the palace. She sought counsel and followed instructions, and God granted her favor before the king (Esther 2:15-17).

3. Faith and Obedience

Faith moves the heart of God. When paired with obedience, it becomes a powerful channel for favor. Hebrews 11:6 states, “Without faith, it is impossible to please God.” Also, Deuteronomy 28:1-2 teaches that obedience leads to blessings overtaking us.

Abraham believed and obeyed when God called him to leave his homeland. His faith positioned him for generational favor (Genesis 12:1-3). Obedience may seem costly, but it always yields divine rewards.

4. Diligence and Excellence

Excellence and hard work often go hand in hand with divine favor. God blesses those who use their gifts and talents faithfully. Proverbs 22:29 asks, “Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings.” Also, Colossians 3:23-24 instructs believers to work as unto the Lord.

Daniel was a man of excellence, and his diligence set him apart in a foreign land. God gave him favor with officials (Daniel 1:9), and eventually, he was elevated to high office (Daniel 6:3).

5. Gratitude and praise

A thankful heart attracts the presence and pleasure of God. Gratitude opens the gates to favor and breakthroughs. Psalm 100:4 says, “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise.” And, 1 Thessalonians 5:18 commands, “Give thanks in all circumstances.

In Luke 17:11-19, ten lepers were healed, but only one returned to thank Jesus. That man was made whole—body and soul—demonstrating that gratitude leads to a greater favor.

6. Prayer and Fellowship with God

Regular communion with God deepens intimacy and invites His favor. Those who seek God’s face through prayer experience His grace and guidance. Exodus 33:17 says, “I will do the very thing you have asked because I am pleased with you, and I know you by name.” And, Luke 2:52 shows Jesus grew in favor through wisdom and fellowship with the Father.

Hannah’s story illustrates the power of prayer. Though barren, she poured her heart out to God and received both favor and a miracle son, Samuel (1 Samuel 1:10-20).

7. Generosity and Kindness

Being generous and kind to others draws God’s attention and favor. God honors those who reflect His heart on compassion. Proverbs 19:17 says, “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them.” And, Acts 10:4 tells us that Cornelius’ prayers and giving “came up as a memorial offering before God.”

Tabitha, also known as Dorcas, was full of good works and almsgiving. Her acts of kindness were so significant that when she died, God used Peter to raise her back to life (Acts 9:36-42).

Divine favor is not random—it’s available to all who walk in alignment with God's principles. Righteousness, humility, obedience, diligence, gratitude, prayer, and generosity are more than spiritual virtues; they are keys that unlock supernatural grace. As you embrace these biblical principles, expect to see the hand of God moving powerfully in your life, opening doors no man can shut.
