The Bible makes it clear that the enemy, Satan, is a defeated foe. However, he still works tirelessly to deceive, oppress, tempt, and destroy. Thankfully, Scripture equips believers with powerful truths and spiritual weapons to stand firm and dismantle the enemy’s operations. The following are key Bible verses that reveal God's power to destroy the works of the devil.
1. 1 John 3:8 (KJV)
“For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.”
This verse clearly states the mission of Jesus Christ—to destroy everything the devil has established. The Greek word for "destroy" (λύσῃ - lyse) also means to loosen, break, or dissolve. This includes demonic strongholds, sinful patterns, oppression, and deception.
2. Luke 10:19 (KJV)
“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Jesus gave His followers spiritual authority over every manifestation of evil. “Serpents and scorpions” symbolize demonic powers, and believers are empowered to overcome them completely.
3. Isaiah 54:17 (KJV)
“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.”
This is a divine assurance that the enemy's plans and accusations will ultimately fail. The verse emphasizes that spiritual attacks may be formed, but they will not succeed against the people of God.
4. James 4:7 (KJV)
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
The devil's influence can be resisted. The verse shows that his power is not absolute; rather, his presence can be repelled through spiritual resistance grounded in submission to God.
5. Revelation 12:11 (KJV)
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”
This passage refers to believers overcoming Satan through the redemptive power of Jesus’ blood and the bold declaration of their faith. The blood of Jesus is central to every victory over the enemy.
6. Ephesians 6:11–12 (KJV)
“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
This passage reveals the structured nature of the enemy’s kingdom and encourages believers to be spiritually equipped to face it. It highlights the reality of spiritual warfare and the importance of divine armor.
7. 2 Corinthians 10:4–5 (KJV)
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God.”
These verses speak of spiritual weapons that demolish strongholds, false ideologies, and satanic arguments. The emphasis is on the divine power of God to bring down every enemy structure.
8. Psalm 91:10–11 (KJV)
“There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”
This passage describes divine protection and angelic intervention against the schemes of the enemy. It affirms that evil cannot prevail where God’s protection is active.
9. Colossians 2:15 (KJV)
“And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”
This verse declares that Jesus stripped the enemy of authority and publicly triumphed over demonic powers through the cross. It is a proclamation of complete spiritual victory.
10. Romans 16:20 (KJV)
“And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.”
Paul assures believers that Satan’s final defeat is certain. The crushing of Satan under the feet of believers is both a present promise and a future reality.
