Types of favour in the Bible

Favor is one of the most transformative forces in the life of a believer. It is the divine approval that causes doors to open, people to help, and purposes to be fulfilled. In Scripture, we find several expressions of God’s favor at work in different lives and situations. Let’s explore the major types of favor in the Bible and how they still apply today.

1. Divine Favour

“But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” – Genesis 6:8

Divine favor is God’s supernatural kindness toward an individual. It’s not earned—it’s granted. Noah’s life is a perfect example. While the earth was filled with wickedness, God chose Noah to preserve humanity.

Noah was chosen not because of his perfection but because of God’s favor. His obedience positioned him for preservation.

Prayer Point: Lord, may I find favor in Your sight, even in the midst of a wicked generation. Let Your grace set me apart like Noah. (Genesis 6:8)

2. Favour with Man

“And Jesus increased… in favor with God and man.” – Luke 2:52

God can cause people—strangers, employers, leaders—to show kindness, offer help, or grant opportunities. This favor makes others go out of their way to support you.

Joseph had favor in Potiphar’s house and the prison. Even when wrongly accused, favor followed him.

Prayer Point: Father, give me favor with those You have placed in positions to bless or support me. Let hearts be moved in my favor. (Genesis 39:21)

3. Favour for Purpose and Assignment

“And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.” – Esther 2:15

God grants favor to position His people for specific assignments. Esther’s favor wasn't just for luxury—it was for a kingdom assignment: to save her people from destruction.

Esther was elevated to queenship because of favor, and it positioned her to be a deliverer.

Prayer Point: Lord, let me receive favor that positions me to fulfill my divine assignment. (Esther 2:17)

4. Favour in Battle

“They got not the land… but thy right hand… because thou hadst a favor unto them.” – Psalm 44:3

Favor can result in supernatural victory over enemies and obstacles. God’s favor will give you triumph, even when the odds are against you.

David consistently won battles because of God’s favor and not just military skill.

Prayer Point: O Lord, let Your favour give me victory in every battle I face. (Psalm 44:3)

5. Favour in Promotion

“For promotion cometh… from God: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.” – Psalm 75:6–7

When favor is on you, God promotes you beyond your qualifications. This favor bypasses man’s protocols and elevates the humble.

Daniel, a foreign captive, rose to power in Babylon because of divine favor.

Prayer Point: Father, let Your favor lift me to new levels of influence and impact. (Daniel 1:9)

6. Favour for Prosperity

“And the Lord gave the people favor… so they gave them what they asked for.” – Exodus 12:36

Favor can produce supernatural provisions. The Israelites left Egypt wealthy, not because they fought, but because God gave them favor with the Egyptians.

What would have taken years to acquire was handed over in one night of divine favor.

Prayer Point: Lord, let Your favour bring me provision, wealth, and opportunities I did not labor for. (Exodus 12:36)

7. Favour for Restoration

“The Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.” – Job 42:10

When favor is present, losses can be reversed and restored in greater measure.

After his trials, Job didn’t just recover; he received double.

Prayer Point: Lord, by Your favor, restore everything the enemy has stolen from me—double for my trouble. (Job 42:10)

8. Favour in Relationships

“He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.” – Proverbs 18:22

God gives favor through relationships—marriage, friendship, and mentorship. These divine connections carry blessings.

Ruth found favor with Boaz, changing her story from widowhood to legacy.

Prayer Point: Lord, connect me with people who are carriers of favor and purpose. (Ruth 2:10–12)

Conclusion: Walking in God’s Favour

Favour is not a coincidence—it is a gift from God that aligns with obedience, purpose, and destiny. Every believer can walk in favor when they seek God earnestly and trust His plans.

Keys to Attracting God’s Favour:

● Obedience to God’s Word (Deuteronomy 28:1–2)

● Humility (James 4:6)

● Prayer and fasting (Esther 4:16)

● Seeking God's presence (Psalm 5:12)

May God clothe you with uncommon favor in every area of your life!

Benefits of praying at 12 midnight
