Five characteristics of a wicked person

Here are five characteristics of a wicked person according to the Bible, with supporting scriptures and explanations:

1. They Reject God's Authority

“The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.” Psalm 14:1 (NIV)

Wicked people often deny God's existence or refuse to submit to His authority. They live as though they are their own gods, making choices without regard for divine commandments.

2. They Delight in Evil and Plot Harm

“The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them.” Psalm 37:12 (NIV)

Wicked people don't stumble into sin—they plan it. They take pleasure in causing pain, injustice, or confusion, especially toward the righteous.

3. They Speak Lies and Deceit

“You love evil more than good, falsehood more than speaking what is right.” Psalm 52:3 (ESV)

Lying and deceit are hallmarks of the wicked. Their tongues are often used to destroy reputations, mislead others, and manipulate situations for selfish gain.

4. They Are Proud and Arrogant

“In his pride the wicked man does not seek Him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.” Psalm 10:4 (NIV)

Wicked people often operate out of pride. They believe they are above correction or accountability, and they scorn the humble ways of righteousness.

5. They Oppress the Innocent

“They slay the widow and the foreigner; they murder the fatherless.” Psalm 94:6 (NIV)

Wickedness often manifests in cruelty, especially toward the vulnerable. The wicked use their power to exploit, harm, or neglect those in need.

These five characteristics show how wickedness is not just about doing wrong, but about an attitude and lifestyle that opposes God’s truth, love, and justice.
