In the Bible, the phrase “tongues of fire” is most vividly seen in Acts 2, when the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples during Pentecost.
“And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.” Acts 2:3 (KJV)
This fire was not a natural fire, but a supernatural fire—the fire of the Holy Ghost—symbolizing purification, power, boldness, and divine speech. It rested on each believer, and they began to speak in tongues, glorifying God and moving in a dimension of power they had never experienced before.
When the tongues of fire rest on a believer, they are:
● Empowered to speak boldly,
● Filled with spiritual utterance,
● Cleansed and consecrated,
● Enabled to intercede with divine language,
● Equipped to destroy demonic strongholds.
If you desire to walk in this fire, the following prayer points—backed by scripture—will stir revival in your soul.
1. Prayer for Fresh Baptism of Fire
“He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire.” Matthew 3:11 (KJV)
Prayer:
O Lord, I yield myself to Your Spirit. Baptize me afresh with Your Holy Ghost and fire. Let the flames of heaven descend upon my heart and consume every spiritual weakness and fleshly desire. Let me burn for You daily.
The fire of God is not just emotional excitement; it is a refining, empowering flame that sets us apart for God’s purpose. Ask for it with hunger.
2. Prayer to Speak in Tongues of Fire
“And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues...” Acts 2:4 (KJV)
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, rest upon me as You did on the disciples. Let my tongue be loosed to declare Your glory. Let me speak in new tongues—tongues that pierce darkness, stir hearts, and release the mysteries of the Kingdom.
Speaking in tongues is not a ritual. It is a divine language that connects our spirit with heaven. When the tongue is touched by fire, it begins to speak the things of God.
3. Prayer for Cleansing by the Fire
“Then flew one of the seraphims… having a live coal… and he laid it upon my mouth… thy sin is purged.” Isaiah 6:6-7 (KJV)
Prayer:
Father, lay Your coal of fire on my lips. Purge me of every unclean word, every fleshly utterance, and every idle speech. Make my lips holy. Let me speak only what glorifies You.
The fire sanctifies. It purifies the vessel so that the words released carry life, truth, and power.
4. Prayer for Boldness and Power in Speech
“And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost… and spake the word of God with boldness.” Acts 4:31 (KJV)
Prayer:
O Lord, let the tongues of fire give me divine boldness. Let fear fall away and courage arise. I refuse to be a silent Christian—let me speak with conviction, clarity, and courage, in Jesus’ name.
When the fire touches your lips, timidity dies. You begin to speak like Elijah, like Peter on Pentecost—fearless and full of heaven’s authority.
5. Prayer to Speak Mysteries in the Spirit
“For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue… in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.” 1 Corinthians 14:2 (KJV)
Prayer:
Lord, activate heavenly mysteries as I speak in tongues of fire. Let my spiritual utterances break barriers, unlock divine secrets, and establish heavenly decrees.
Tongues of fire are not mere emotion. They are keys to divine revelation and mysteries hidden in God.
6. Prayer to Destroy the Works of Darkness
“Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?” Jeremiah 23:29 (KJV)
Prayer:
O God, anoint my tongue like fire. Let every declaration I make in tongues of fire scatter the works of the enemy. Let chains break, demons flee, and altars of darkness be destroyed.
Fiery tongues carry judgment power over demonic systems. They burn away evil and establish the counsel of God.
7. Prayer for Unceasing Fire on the Altar
“The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.” Leviticus 6:13 (KJV)
Prayer:
Lord, let my spiritual fire never die. Stir my prayer life, renew my hunger, and awaken my desire for deeper fellowship. May the fire on my altar burn 24/7.
Spiritual fire must be maintained. Coldness is the enemy of revival. Fiery tongues keep your altar hot and effective.
8. Prayer for Revival and Outpouring
“Cloven tongues like as of fire… and it sat upon each of them.” Acts 2:3
Prayer:
O God of Pentecost, let the tongues of fire fall again. Revive my heart, my church, and my generation. May we burn again with first love and holy power.
A personal Pentecost must become your cry. The fire that fell then can fall now—if we desire and seek it with hunger.
9. Prayer for Supernatural Intercession
“The Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Romans 8:26 (KJV)
Prayer:
Spirit of God, intercede through me. Let my tongues be more than speech—let it carry healing, deliverance, and breakthrough. Empower me to pray beyond my understanding.
Tongues of fire make us agents of divine warfare in the spirit realm. Through them, we touch what cannot be touched by natural words.
10. Prayer for Glory-Filled Utterance
“And they began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts 2:4
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, take over my tongue. Let Your utterance flow through me. Speak Your glory, declare Your works, and proclaim Your wonders through me.
When tongues of fire come, your tongue becomes God’s mouthpiece. No longer do you speak on your own, but as one moved by the Spirit.
Conclusion: Let the Fire Fall!
The early church began with tongues of fire, and its impact turned the world upside down. That same fire is still available. It’s not just for pastors or prophets—it’s for all hungry believers.
Are you hungry for more? Are you tired of dry prayers and powerless speech? Then cry out:
“Lord, let Your tongues of fire rest on me. Set me ablaze for Your glory!”
Amen.
