     The Bible often speaks about God as a warrior, a defender, and a judge who delivers His people from destruction. While Satan is described as “the destroyer” (John 10:10), and evil men are often agents of destruction, the Scriptures affirm that God Himself rises to destroy the destroyer. This truth is not just a promise of vengeance; it is a declaration of God’s justice, holiness, and faithfulness to His covenant people.

      In this guide, we will look into what it means for God to “destroy the destroyer,” using biblical passages, examples, and revelations of how this truth applies to our spiritual lives today.

1. Who is the Destroyer in the Bible?

     The “destroyer” is used in different contexts throughout Scripture:

1. Satan – the chief destroyer

  Jesus said in John 10:10: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”

     The devil’s main mission is to ruin lives, destinies, marriages, families, and nations. He is called Apollyon (meaning “Destroyer”) in Revelation 9:11.

2. Death and its power

  Hebrews 2:14 reminds us: “…that through death He (Jesus) might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil.”

     Here, destruction is linked to death’s grip, which Christ came to break.

3. Wicked men as instruments of destruction

     In history and prophecy, nations and leaders who resisted God’s purposes were referred to as “destroyers” (Jeremiah 51:25 – Babylon as a destroying mountain).

4. Sin itself as a destroyer

    Romans 6:23 declares: “The wages of sin is death.”

     Sin corrupts and destroys, but Christ destroys sin’s dominion over His people.

2. God’s Promise: Destroying the Destroyer

     The Bible reveals that God does not sit idly while destruction ravages His people. He promises to intervene and bring judgment on the one who destroys.

a) 1 Corinthians 3:17

  “If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.”

     This is perhaps the clearest declaration of the principle: anyone or anything that tries to destroy God’s temple (whether the body of a believer or the Church collectively) will face God’s destruction.

b) Exodus 12:23 – The Destroyer Restrained

     During the Passover, God did not permit “the destroyer” to strike His people:

  “The Lord will not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you.”

     This shows God’s authority over every destructive force. Under the covering of the blood of Jesus, the destroyer cannot prevail.

c) Jeremiah 51:25

     God declared against Babylon: “Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain … I will stretch out my hand against you, and roll you down from the crags, and make you a burnt mountain.”

     Here, God promises to bring down world powers and systems that act as destroyers of His people.

d) 1 John 3:8

  “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”

     Christ’s coming was not only to save but also to wage war against destruction itself. His mission is to reverse what the destroyer has done.

3. Biblical Examples of God Destroying the Destroyer

1. Pharaoh and Egypt (Exodus 14)

     Pharaoh sought to destroy Israel, but God destroyed him in the Red Sea. The oppressor became the oppressed, and the destroyer was destroyed by divine judgment.

2. Haman in the book of Esther

     Haman plotted to destroy the Jews, but the gallows he prepared became his own destruction (Esther 7:9–10).

3. Babylon (Jeremiah 50–51)

     As a symbol of destruction and pride, Babylon was brought down by God as an act of divine justice.

4. The Devil at the Cross (Colossians 2:14–15)

     Through His death and resurrection, Jesus disarmed the powers of darkness and triumphed over them. The cross, meant to destroy Christ, became the very weapon that destroyed the destroyer.

4. The Principle of Divine Justice

     One of the deepest biblical truths is that God is a God of justice. He does not allow destruction to go unchecked forever. In due time, He rises to vindicate His people.

  Psalm 55:23 – “But you, O God, will bring down the wicked into the pit of destruction.”

  Galatians 6:7 – “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.”

     This principle assures us that evil will not have the last word. The destroyer will reap destruction.

a) Christ Has Already Destroyed the Destroyer

     At the cross, Jesus dealt a fatal blow to Satan and death. Believers now stand in victory, not defeat (Colossians 2:15, Hebrews 2:14).

b) The Blood of Jesus Protects Against the Destroyer

     Just as the Israelites were covered by the blood of the lamb at Passover (Exodus 12:23), the blood of Jesus shields us today.

c) Authority Over the Destroyer

  Luke 10:19 says: “Behold, I give you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

     Christians are not passive victims; they carry divine authority to resist destruction.

d) Destruction Can Turn Against the Destroyer

     What the enemy meant for evil, God turns for good (Genesis 50:20). The very weapons aimed against God’s children backfire, as seen in Haman’s story.

6. Prayer Points – Destroying the Destroyer

1. Thanksgiving:

  “Lord, thank You for the victory of the cross that destroyed the works of the devil.”

2. Protection:

  “Father, by the blood of Jesus, let every power of the destroyer be silenced over my life and family.”

  “O Lord, rise and destroy every destroyer assigned against my destiny, in the name of Jesus.”

4. Restoration:

  “Whatever the destroyer has stolen from me, O Lord, restore it sevenfold according to Your Word.”

  “I declare that the destroyer will not prevail against me, because I am more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus.”

     The Bible is clear: destruction is not the final chapter for the believer. Though the destroyer is real, his end is certain. Through Christ, God has promised to destroy the destroyer and secure victory for His people. Whether the destroyer comes in the form of satanic attack, wicked schemes, sin, or oppressive systems, the believer’s assurance is firm:

  “No weapon formed against you shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17).

     So stand firm in faith, covered by the blood of Jesus, knowing that the One who sits on the throne has already decreed the end: The Destroyer will be destroyed.
