In our world today, it’s common to hear the phrase, “We’re all God’s children.” It sounds comforting and unifying, but according to Scripture, this is not entirely true. While God is indeed the Creator of all, the Bible draws a clear distinction between those who are His creation and those who are truly His children.
To be a “child of God” is not just a matter of existence—it’s a matter of relationship and rebirth. This guide will help you understand what it really means to be a child of God, how that identity is received, and why it’s essential to walk in it daily.
Created by God, but Not Automatically His Child
The Bible affirms that God created everyone. Acts 17:28 says, “For in Him we live and move and have our being… we are also His offspring.”
This verse refers to creation, not salvation. All people are God’s offspring in the sense that He gave them life. But being a child of God in the spiritual sense is something different.
John 1:12–13 explains it clearly: “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God—to those who believe in His name; who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

A Call to Reflection

● Am I living as a true child of God, or merely identifying as His creation?
Jesus said in John 3:3, “Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
That means we must experience spiritual rebirth through faith in Christ. This rebirth changes not just our destination, but our identity and desires.
